The link is the heart of Pokémon Link!: an alignment of four identical Pokémon, horizontal or vertical, which sends them back to the SOL. Here are the rules of the game and our tips for pulling off long chains.

The rules

  • Pokémon fall from the top screen and pile up on the bottom one. Only those on the bottom screen can be linked.
  • With the stylus, you slide a row left or right, or a column downward: Pokémon that go out at the bottom come back at the top. You can also move a column up one space, but only to complete a link.
  • Four aligned Pokémon disappear and trigger a chain: for a short time, three aligned Pokémon are enough, then two.
  • Five aligned Pokémon make a Ditto appear, a wild card that stands in for any Pokémon in an alignment.
  • Making a lot of Pokémon disappear at once makes a rare Pokémon appear.
  • You lose if the pile reaches the top.
Ditto.

Our tips

  • Watch both screens. The top screen shows what is about to fall: plan the order of your alignments so you don’t waste a good setup.
  • Save Ditto to get out of a jam or to destroy the pieces the bosses throw at you, which only it can make disappear.
  • Go for the end bonuses. At the end of a depot, the bonus ranges from 20,000 to 0 points depending on the number of Pokémon left: it often makes the difference in earning a coin.
  • Use your Pokémon. Later in the adventure, Lucy can send her own Pokémon into the grid to help her.
