Origins and Trivia
Name origin: Arceus is said to come from the Latin arcanus (“secret”) and deus (“god”), or from the Greek arkhè, the beginning and power: a name fit for its role as creator.
The creator Pokémon: According to Sinnoh myths, it hatched from an egg in the midst of nothingness and shaped the universe, then gave birth to Dialga, Palkia and Giratina. Its look and its shrines are also inspired by ancient Greece.
Multitype: Thanks to its Multitype Ability, it changes type depending on the Plate it holds and can thus take on each of the 18 types.
Did you know?: It gives its name to Pokémon Legends: Arceus (2022), the first game of the “Legends” series, set in Hisui, the Sinnoh of old.
