Pokémon Masters EX is nothing like the main games: one Trainer, one Pokémon, and real-time battles. Here are the rules and our tips for getting off to a good start, based on Poképédia.

Pokémon Masters EX.

Sync Pairs

Each Trainer battles with a single Pokémon: that is a Sync Pair. Each Sync Pair has a base potential, in stars, which sets its power and level cap, plus a type and a weakness. A team has three Sync Pairs on the field, chosen from all the ones you have recruited.

Battles

  • Battles are played 3-on-3, in real time; you have to knock out all of the opposing Pokémon.
  • The Move Gauge, shared by the whole team, fills up on its own: each attack uses up part of it. It is up to you to decide which Pokémon attacks.
  • Trainer Moves, such as healing or boosting items, do not use up any gauge but are limited in number.
  • After a certain number of actions, a Sync Pair can use its Sync Move, a special attack that can include a Z-Move or a Mega Evolution.
  • Updates have added Dynamax Sync Moves (one per battle), Sync Abilities, which activate under certain conditions, and EX roles.

Roles

RoleFunction
StrikeDeals damage, physical or special
SupportHeals and protects the team
TechWeakens the opponent and strengthens allies
Field, SprintRoles added in version 2.35.0
MultiRole added in version 2.48.0

A good team usually pairs one or two Strikers with a Support or a Tech.

Progressing

Sync Pairs gain levels by battling and in Bonus Areas, where you also collect items to raise their level caps. Receiving a Sync Pair you already own raises the level of its Sync Move, up to 5. Some Pokémon evolve over the course of their Sync Pair’s Stories. See Sync Pairs and Pair Scout.
