Name origin: Mewtwo means “Mew two”: it is the genetically engineered clone of Mew, whose name itself is said to come from the Japanese myūtanto, “mutant”.
Appearance: It keeps traits of Mew, such as its cat-like head, but stands 2 meters (6′07″) tall and has an almost human shape. It mostly moves by levitating, and its long tail recalls an umbilical cord.
At the movies: It is the star of the series’ first film, released in 1998 in Japan, where it wants to prove its superiority over humans and Pokémon. It has had both Mega Evolutions, X and Y, since Pokémon X and Y.
Did you know?: In Pokémon Red and Blue, Mewtwo waits at the bottom of Cerulean Cave, reachable only after beating the Pokémon League. It is one of the most anticipated battles of the first generation.
