Pokémon Battle Trozei takes the basics of Pokémon Trozei! and turns them into a battle and catching game. Here are the rules and our tips for making progress, based on the game’s presentation and Serebii.
The rules
- Swap. Pick up a Pokémon with the stylus and move it: it swaps places with the one it replaces. This is the big difference from Pokémon Trozei!, where you slid entire lines.
- Line up. Three or more identical Pokémon disappear. The Pokémon above falling down can create more lines: that is the combo. During a combo, two Pokémon are enough, and a few seconds let you move others to extend it.
- Attack. Each link deals damage to the wild Pokémon on the top screen, depending on the type of the lined-up Pokémon and that of the opponent. In this game, each Pokémon has only one type: Honedge, for example, is only Steel type.
- Catch. When the opponent’s HP drops to zero, it is caught. Some levels pit you against several at once.
- Survive. Wild Pokémon attack and drain the energy gauge, on the side of the grid. If none is left, the game is lost. Lining up Chansey refills it. Sometimes, a wild Pokémon jumps into the grid and takes up space.
The allies
Before each level, you choose your allies from the Pokémon you have caught: they are the ones that fill the grid. Pick types that are effective against the level’s Pokémon, and useful abilities, like Restoration or Builder. See abilities and allies.
Hidden conditions
Many Pokémon only appear under certain conditions: a combo of a certain length, a “one-shot” catch (within a single combo), a super effective attack, a specific ally or a percentage of the Pokémon list completed. All of them are in our tables by zone.
Day, night and days of the week
The game uses the 3DS clock. In level 4 of the Sky Ruins and level 1 of the Distortion Islet, the Pokémon differ by day (from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and by night (from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.). The Safari Jungle changes Pokémon every day of the week. See the Safari Jungle.
