Pokémon Tetris, called Pokémon Shock Tetris in Japan, marries the famous puzzle game with Pokémon catching. Released in Europe on March 15, 2002, before Japan, it was never published in North America. It is one of the console’s strongest games. Here are its modes, based on Serebii.
How it works
You stack the falling pieces to complete lines; the more you clear, the higher the level goes and the faster the pieces fall. The harder modes add five-block pieces, the pentominoes.
Catching Pokémon
During the game, a Pokémon’s silhouette appears on the right of the screen. To catch it, you have to clear four lines at once, before the time limit runs out. The game’s Pokédex has 249 Pokémon, which appear at random.
The modes
| Mode | How it works |
|---|---|
| Standard | An endless game, in three difficulties: Rookie (four-block pieces), Normal (progressive pentominoes) and Super (pentominoes earlier) |
| 20 Lines | Clear 20 lines as fast as possible |
| Pyramid | Clear one, two, three and four lines at once, against the clock |
| VS. | An infrared duel against another player, in one of the three modes |
The game also keeps detailed stats: Pokédex, duel wins, lines cleared. Rankings can be exchanged by infrared.
