Recruiting Pokémon is one of the joys of Mystery Dungeon. In Rescue Team DX, it follows precise rules, based on Poképédia.
Rescue camps
To recruit a Pokémon, you must own its rescue camp, bought at the Camping Club or won through missions. A few Pokémon open their own camp when they join the team, such as the legendaries.
The rules
- Only the leader can recruit: they must land the final blow, from at most two tiles away, projectiles included.
- The recruitment chance depends on the Pokémon and on the leader’s level.
- It rises by 12.8% with a Friend Bow held by the leader, by 17.5% when finishing with False Swipe, and by 25% with a Recruit Orb.
- Powerful Pokémon can only be recruited with one of these three aids, and only if they are shiny; Kecleon requires all three at once.
- Some Pokémon can only be recruited after the story, or not on the first encounter.
In dungeons
The team sets out with three members at most, a fourth spot being reserved for escorts, and can reach eight members through recruiting. You can send a Pokémon back to its camp if it has already been there; otherwise, it leaves the team. If the leader, the client or the partner (during the story) is knocked out, the mission fails and you lose part of your unstored items and money.
