One month after Regulation M-C arrived in Pokémon Champions, the Doubles Battles metagame is starting to give up its secrets. Four Regional Championships have already been played under these rules, in Baltimore, Frankfurt, Brisbane and Recife, and two major events are coming up: the Nice Regional on October 17 and 18, then Global Challenge II, from October 30 to November 2, which awards Championship Points.

To get a clear picture, the editorial team compiled and analyzed every team that reached the second day of these four tournaments, nearly 400 in all, along with the top eight teams of each event and their detailed sets. The goal: to tell apart Pokémon that are merely popular from those that really win, and to understand why.

In this feature, you will find a ranking of the most-played Pokémon and Mega Evolutions at the highest level, a breakdown of the format’s six major team archetypes with their strengths and counters, the notable run of a French player, then a six-step method and a threat checklist to build a solid team before Global Challenge II.
