The pumpkins are lighting up in Pokémon Pokopia. From Saturday, October 17 to Sunday, November 1, the Nintendo Switch 2 game is hosting its very first Halloween event, “Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises.” On the menu: two new Pokémon,
Pumpkaboo and
Gourgeist, pranks to play on the residents, and a collection of furniture that is far more cute than scary.
Pumpkaboo knocks at the Pokémon Center’s door
Announced on September 30 by The Pokémon Company, the event begins with a visit: Pumpkaboo, the Pumpkin Pokémon, settles in near your town’s Pokémon Center. Just talk to it and fulfill its Request to make a friend of it. It is also the one who kicks off the festivities, inspired by a midnight party with a Halloween flavor.

The idea fits the spirit of the game perfectly, in which you play as
Ditto: using the move Mimic, you have to transform into a piece of furniture or an object that a Pokémon likes, wait for it to come close… then scare it. Every successful prank earns pumpkin candy, the event’s treat. A twist on “trick-or-treat” where you are the one playing the trick.
Candy in exchange for haunted furniture
The candy you collect can be exchanged at the Pokémon Center for exclusive furniture and items. The official visuals give a glimpse of the catalog: a sarcophagus in the likeness of
Cofagrigus, a stone statue featuring
Duskull,
Dusclops and
Dusknoir, a tree with a menacing stare reminiscent of
Trevenant, stacked carved pumpkins, a pumpkin basket filled with sweets, and a
Pikachu balloon wearing a witch’s hat.

These items are not just for decoration. By using them to build a suitable habitat, you will attract Gourgeist, the evolution of Pumpkaboo, which will become your friend in turn. Good news for collectors: the Pokémon you meet during the event will stay in town once the party is over.

Dates and requirements to take part
- Dates: from Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 5:00 AM to Sunday, November 1, 2026 at 4:59 AM, according to the console’s clock. The Nintendo Switch 2 clock must match the real date.
- Game version: update 2.0.1 must be installed. The version number is shown on the title screen.
- Progress: you must have completed the town’s big Request, rebuilt its Pokémon Center and learned the move Mimic from
Zorua in Bleak Beach. - Connection: the console must be connected to the internet when you launch the game the first time you take part.
- Excluded locations: the event does not trigger on the Cloud Islands or in Bubbly Basin.
- Latecomers: meeting the requirements any time up to November 1 is enough to start the event. If you meet them during the event, switch towns or quit the game from the main menu to make it appear.
In multiplayer, some restrictions apply: the event is not accessible in visit mode. If you play with others, remember to listen to Pumpkaboo’s explanations before starting the session.
