📜Origins and Trivia

🔤
Name origin: Gengar and its Japanese name Gangar recall the Doppelgänger, the evil double of German folklore. In French, it is called Ectoplasma, from “ectoplasme” (ectoplasm), the substance attributed to ghosts.
👻
Inspiration: Its line tells the story of a spirit crossing from the afterlife to the world of the living: Gastly, Haunter, then Gengar, the one that made the crossing. It hides in shadows, and its presence is said to lower the temperature by about 5 °C (9 °F).
🔄
Trade evolution: Haunter only evolves into Gengar after a trade: it is one of the best-known trade evolutions of the first generation.
💡
Did you know?: It has a Mega Evolution, Mega Gengar, introduced in X and Y, and a Gigantamax form in Sword and Shield.
