Name origin: Lucario is said to come from the Latin lupus (“wolf”) and Cairo, a double nod to Egypt. Its name is the same in French.
Inspiration: It is inspired by Anubis, the jackal-headed god of ancient Egypt who judged souls, echoing its power to sense the aura of living beings. The appendages at the back of its head help it pick up that aura.
In the anime and movies: It is the hero of the film Lucario and the Mystery of Mew (2005) and joins Ash’s team in the Journeys season.
