Origem do nome: Lucario viria do latim lupus (“lobo”) e de Cairo (a capital do Egito), uma dupla homenagem ao país. Seu nome é o mesmo em francês.
Inspiração: Ele é inspirado em Anúbis, o deus de cabeça de chacal do Egito antigo que julgava as almas, eco de seu poder de perceber a aura dos seres vivos. Os apêndices na parte de trás da cabeça servem para captar essa aura.
No anime e no cinema: Ele é o herói do filme Lucario and the Mystery of Mew (2005) e se junta à equipe de Ash na temporada Journeys.
