In Pokémon Dash, terrain makes all the difference. Each type slows Pikachu down in its own way, some prevent you from landing, and boosters restore his top speed. Here is the terrain table, based on our original guide, along with tips for running faster.
The terrain table
| Terrain | Landing from a balloon | Speed without a booster |
|---|---|---|
| Roads | No popped balloons | 100%, plus 10% hidden |
| Grass | Up to two popped balloons | 76% |
| Forests | Avoid landing there | 53% |
| Sand | Up to two popped balloons | 47% |
| Swamps | Up to two popped balloons | 29%, for 3 seconds |
| Snow | Only one popped balloon | 82% |
| Lava | Avoid landing there | — |
| Rocky ground | No popped balloons | 71% |
| Sea | Up to two popped balloons | 0%, for 3 seconds |
| Shorelines | Up to two popped balloons | 47% |
With the matching booster, Pikachu runs at 100% on any terrain. In swamps, you can’t stay long without sinking; on the sea, Lapras helps you cross.
Running faster
- Draw long, fast strokes: even at 100%, a long stroke earns you up to 10% of “hidden” speed.
- Pop your balloons as you fall: with one balloon popped, speed climbs to 400%, and with both, above 700%. But choose your landing zone carefully, or Pikachu will be stunned for a few seconds.
- Memorize the courses: there are 25 of them, five per cup. Time Attack helps you learn them.
