Hoenn is one of the regions with the most legendary Pokémon, and Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire add almost all of those from other generations. This page gathers the legendaries that are part of the story or of the region’s locations: Groudon and Kyogre, Rayquaza, Deoxys, the two Eon Pokémon, the Regi trio, Heatran and the Ho-Oh and Lugia duo. The legendaries from other regions, which require Soaring and Mirage Spots, are covered on a separate page.

The Hoenn region: its legendaries are spread from the Cave of Origin to the Sky Pillar.

A legendary that you knocked out or ran away from, apart from those the story forces you to catch, reappears in the same place once you have entered the Hall of Fame again. So you can try again.

Groudon and Kyogre

Groudon (Omega Ruby) or Kyogre (Alpha Sapphire) awaits you on the fifth basement floor of the Cave of Origin, in Sootopolis City, in its Primal form. The battle, the capture and the Orbs are detailed on the Primal Reversion page. In this version, the Pokémon is always caught at level 45 and cannot be Shiny.

Latios and Latias, the Eon Pokémon

After the Petalburg City Gym, one of the two Eon Pokémon comes to ask for help from Steven Stone and you on Route 118: it is Latias in Omega Ruby and Latios in Alpha Sapphire, and it leads you to Southern Island. There, the enemy team’s Admin is harassing the other Eon Pokémon. After the battle, the Pokémon joins your team with its Mega Stone: Latios in Omega Ruby, Latias in Alpha Sapphire, at level 30.

Steven then gives you the Mega Bracelet. To obtain the other Eon Pokémon, you need the Eon Ticket, a rare item distributed through events. Norman then takes you to Southern Island, where you meet the second Eon Pokémon at level 30. After you catch it, you find the Soul Dew on the ground. In France, the Eon Ticket can be obtained in two ways: through StreetPass, by crossing paths with a player who has it (to be activated in the Play Nav), or with a Mystery Gift code that was only valid from February 27 to March 2, 2015. Today, the codes can no longer be used: the easiest way to get both Eon Pokémon is to trade with someone who has the other version.

The Regi trio: Regirock, Regice and Registeel

The three Regi are hidden in three caves that must be opened first. The procedure is the same as in Ruby and Sapphire.

  1. Team: put a Relicanth in the first position and a Wailord in the last position.
  2. Sealed Chamber: on Route 134, dive into the hole to the southeast using Dive, in front of the Braille inscription “Rise from the depths”. In the first room, read the Braille on the back wall (“turn the earth over”) and use Dig standing in the middle of the wall: a passage opens.
  3. Second room: with Relicanth in the lead and Wailord at the back, read the inscription on the low wall at the back. An earthquake opens the three caves.
  4. Regirock, Desert Ruins (Route 111): from the Braille inscription, take two steps to the right, two steps down, then use Strength.
  5. Regice, Island Cave (Route 105): stand still in front of the inscription for two minutes.
  6. Registeel, Ancient Tomb (Route 120): stand in the middle of the room and use Fly.

The three Regi are at level 40. Their ability is Clear Body.

Regigigas

Regigigas is new to the remake. To meet it, you must have caught the three Regi in that same cartridge. Regigigas is not part of the Hoenn Pokédex: you can only encounter it after defeating Groudon or Kyogre. In Pacifidlog Town, the little girl in the northeast house tells a legend that gives hints. The preparation is precise: the team must include Regirock, Registeel and a Regice that has a nickname and holds an Ice-type item (Casteliacone, Icicle Plate, Never-Melt Ice…). Enter the Island Cave during the day, as far as the center of Regice’s chamber. A message says the ground is shaking and the battle begins. Regigigas (level 50, ability Slow Start) can be encountered from the day after you catch the last Regi.

Regigigas, master of the Regi, new to the remake.

Ho-Oh and Lugia

After the Primal Reversion, go back to Sea Mauville, the abandoned platform on Route 108, and search it using Dive to find the Scanner. Take it to Captain Stern in Slateport City: he gives you a Clear Bell in Omega Ruby, or a Tidal Bell in Alpha Sapphire, in exchange. Return to Sea Mauville with this item to meet the legendary of your version: Ho-Oh in Omega Ruby (at the end of the long beam that runs from the surface to the west), Lugia in Alpha Sapphire (in the submerged control room). Both are at level 50. Ho-Oh holds a Sacred Ash.

The same platform is also the only place to find Spiritomb: it appears in a room of the dry corridor, as long as you follow the clues left in the room.

Heatran

Heatran hides in the Scorched Slab, on Route 120. After the Primal Reversion, Flannery awaits you on the first basement floor and mentions a rare Pokémon in the cave. Go down to the third basement floor, interact with the portal and face Heatran, at level 50. Its ability is Flash Fire and it knows Metal Sound, Crunch, Scary Face and Lava Plume.

Rayquaza and Deoxys

Rayquaza and Deoxys can only be obtained in the Delta Episode, at the Sky Pillar. Rayquaza (level 70) must be caught to continue the story, and Deoxys (level 80) is a Mythical Pokémon that can be obtained for the first time in a game without an event. If you knock Deoxys out without catching it, it reappears at the top of the Sky Pillar after you beat the League again. Once Deoxys is caught, it can freely change forme using a meteorite found at Professor Cozmo’s, in Fallarbor Town. Everything is explained on the Delta Episode page and on the Mega Rayquaza page.
