📜Origins and Trivia

🔤
Name origin: Espeon derives from “ESPer”, a person with extrasensory perception. In French, it is called Mentali, from “mental”.
🎨
Inspiration: Drawn by Atsuko Nishida, it recalls the bakeneko and the nekomata, mysterious cats from Japanese legend; the nekomata has a forked tail, like Espeon. The red gem on its forehead evokes a “third eye”.
🌞
Evolution: Eevee evolves into Espeon if it levels up during the day with high friendship; at night, it becomes Umbreon. Both first appeared in Pokémon Gold and Silver.
💡
Did you know?: According to the Pokédex, its velvety fur senses the slightest changes in the air, which would let it predict the weather.
