The game
Do I need to have played the first Pokémon Ranger?
No. The story stands on its own, even though several characters and nods refer back to the first game.
Where does the game take place?
In the Almia region, from Chicole Village and its Ranger School to the Hia Valley.
Who are the villains?
Team Dim Sun, which controls Pokémon using devices called control devices.
Can you still play it?
With the Nintendo DS cartridge, on a DS or 3DS, or on Wii U for those who bought it on the Virtual Console before the eShop closed.
Partners and quests
Which partner should I choose at the start?
Whichever you like: you get the other two afterwards through quests. Pachirisu, an Electric type, is a versatile choice.
How do I change partners?
By talking to the Pokémon you want at the Partner Farm in Chicole Village. See Partner Pokémon.
How many quests are there?
Sixty-one, of which sixty are available depending on your starting partner. See Side quests.
What are the quests for?
To earn Capture Styler upgrades and new partners. See Capture Styler upgrades.
How do I get Celebi?
Through the last quest, which unlocks after the other sixty and takes place in Vien Forest.
Ranger Net
How do I get Dialga, Palkia or Shaymin?
Through the extra Ranger Net missions, downloaded in 2009. They are no longer available. See Ranger Net.
Can you still get Manaphy, Riolu or Darkrai?
No: the special missions that let you transfer them to Diamond, Pearl and Platinum can no longer be downloaded since the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection closed in 2014.
