Beyond the cups and the Castle, Pokémon Stadium 2 offers plenty of other modes: the Pokémon Academy, the Lab, My Room, the Game Boy Tower and Mystery Gift. Here is what each one does.

The Pokémon Academy

Inspired by the school in Violet City in Gold and Silver, the Academy teaches you all the strategy of Pokémon battles.

  • The classroom offers lessons, written tests and battle tests at three levels: Trainer, Champion and Elite Four. A medal rewards players who earn a star in every subject.
  • The lessons cover the rules, evolution, types and dual types, status conditions, moves, switching Pokémon, Special Attack and Special Defense, held items and Eggs.
  • The library gathers reference sheets you can browse freely.

The Pokémon Lab

Professor Elm’s lab gives you access to the 3D Pokédex, the PC and its Nintendo 64 Boxes, and the trading machine.

  • The PC lets you store your Pokémon between the Game Boy and Nintendo 64 Boxes, check their stats, rearrange their moves and move items around.
  • Trading takes place between two cartridges inserted into two Transfer Paks, with no cable needed. Pokémon that evolve by trade evolve here too.

My Room

With a Gold, Silver or Crystal cartridge, you can visit your hero’s room in 3D (My Room) and redecorate it with the decorations you have obtained.

Mystery Gift

In the Game Boy games, Mystery Gift is done between two consoles. Pokémon Stadium 2 lets you do it alone, once a day, with the girl in the Goldenrod City Shopping Mall. You must have talked to her in the Game Boy game. The gifts range from berries and battle items to dolls and posters, with a few rare items and exclusive decorations.

The Game Boy Tower

It lets you play Game Boy games on your TV. The Doduo and Dodrio modes speed up the game; they are unlocked by winning all the cups or the whole Castle, in rounds 1 and 2. See Rival and rewards.

Free Battle and Event Battle

Free Battle lets you fight in the unlocked Castle arenas under the rules of your choice. Event Battle pits two players against each other with their Game Boy teams.
