📜Origins and Trivia

🔤
Name origin: Raichu comes from the Japanese rai, “thunder”, and chū, the squeak of a mouse. Its name is the same in every language.
🎨
Design: Atsuko Nishida drew it, like Pikachu and Alolan Raichu. Its legs and long tail recall a jerboa or a kangaroo rat.
🌴
Alolan Raichu: Its Alolan form, an Electric and Psychic type introduced in Sun and Moon, gets around by surfing on its tail: a nod to surfing, born in Hawaii, the islands that inspired Alola.
💡
Did you know?: During the creation of the first generation, Raichu was meant to evolve into Gorochu, a big rodent with fangs and horns; the idea was dropped for game balance. Raichu finally received two Mega Evolutions, X and Y, in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
