Gates to Infinity takes its name from the Magnagates: portals to extra dungeons, opened by photographing round objects with the Nintendo 3DS camera. The game also offers downloadable dungeons and surprise floors after the story. Here is how these side dungeons work.

Magnagates

  1. In the Magnagate menu, use the 3DS camera to aim at a circular real-life object: a plate, a clock, a lid…
  2. If the object is recognized, a Magnagate opens to a dungeon generated for the occasion.
  3. You explore it with a team of your choice, with its own rules and rewards.

Our archive article Magnagates details the menu and the exploration.

Downloadable dungeons

Extra dungeons were sold on the game’s online shop; one of them, Poké Forest, was free until 21 June 2013. We presented them when they came out: Downloadable dungeons, three additional dungeons and then the last three.

Off-map floors

After the main story, dungeons can change during exploration: you go from a forest dungeon to a cave, or stumble into a room full of gold. These random rules freshen up dungeons you have already visited. See our article Off-map dungeons.

The intensity level

Each dungeon shows an intensity level, which indicates whether it holds more or fewer secrets to discover.
