Once you have mastered the basics, Pokémon Picross offers two extra challenges: the Mega Stylus, which opens the Mega Evolution puzzles, and the alternate mode, with its Mega Picross puzzles whose clues span several rows. Here is how to unlock and tackle them.
The Mega Stylus
From puzzle 05-02, Mega Banette’s, the player can buy the Mega Stylus for 500 Picrites. It lets you solve the Mega Pokémon puzzles and use Mega Evolution during a puzzle.
The alternate mode
The alternate mode replays all the puzzles with a twist: Mega Picross. Some clue numbers, called “Mega Numbers”, indicate a number of squares to fill in across two rows or two columns at once, called “Mega Rows”.
- Unlocking: Professor Tetra gives you three Mega Picross tests in area 0. Once you pass them, the mode can be bought for 300 Picrites.
- The objectives are different and more demanding: reduced time, Mega Pokémon forbidden, abilities imposed or limited.
- No reward: alternate mode objectives earn neither Picrites nor mural pieces.
- A bonus: completing the alternate mode removes the interval between Mythical Pokémon appearances.
