Pokémon Puzzle League offers many modes, from Story Mode to Puzzle Village and the Training Lab. Here is each one, along with the Story Mode opponents by difficulty.
Story Mode
Ash is resting when Professor Oak invites him to take part in the Puzzle Village challenge. He can only use Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Pikachu. The opponents depend on the difficulty:
| Difficulty | Opponents |
|---|---|
| Easy | Gary, then the Gym Leaders up to Blaine, with a Badge for each victory. |
| Normal | The same, plus Jessie, James and Meowth, and Giovanni. |
| Hard | The same, plus the Puzzle Elite: Richie, Lorelei, Bruno and a stronger Gary. |
| Very Hard | All of the above, then Mewtwo. If you lose to Mewtwo, you must beat Gary again before challenging it once more. |
Marathon Mode
Jessie, James and Meowth steal Ash’s Pokémon, and he sets off in pursuit. A bonus level pits him against Butch and Cassidy, and Giovanni waits at the end.
The other modes
- Versus, for one or two players: all the characters are playable, except Mewtwo.
- Time Attack: score as many points as possible in the allotted time.
- Training Lab: Jackie teaches you how to perform combos.
- Puzzle Library: solve puzzles or create your own, with Brock, Lorelei and Richie.
- 3D Mode: the stack of blocks forms a cylinder that you can rotate.
The game lets you create several profiles, so each player’s records are kept separate.
