Good news: a wave of Pokémon sets compatible with Smart Play technology has been awaited for a while, and it’s now official! LEGO is getting ready to launch no fewer than 12 new interactive sets on August 1, 2026.
The official information is now available… what does LEGO have in store for us?
What is LEGO Smart Play technology?

For those discovering this innovation, the LEGO Smart Play system is built around one key piece: the Smart Brick. This electronic brick, the result of more than twenty patented innovations, is the heart of the experience. When combined with Smart Tags – small RFID tiles – it lets LEGO builds come to life with lights, sounds and motion sensors, all without needing a screen. Until now, this technology was mostly reserved for a few Star Wars sets. Pokémon thus becomes the second major license to benefit from it, and it has to be said that the universe is a perfect fit, promising even more immersive interactions.
Two types of sets: be careful not to mix them up!

This is a crucial point to understand before you buy. This new wave of LEGO Pokémon Smart Play is split into two distinct categories. It’s important to identify which one suits your needs to avoid any confusion when buying.
All-in-One sets
These sets include everything you need to get started right away: the Smart Brick, the Smart Tags and even the charger. They’re perfect for anyone jumping into the Smart Play universe. In this first wave, only two sets fall into this category:
- 72164 – Pikachu’s Training Hut: With 400 pieces, 1 Smart Brick and 4 Tags, kids can feed, train and battle with their Pikachu for €69.99.
- 72167 – The Ultimate Battle between Charizard and Jolteon: This larger set of 751 pieces, including 2 Smart Bricks and 4 Tags, will sell for €119.99.
Compatible sets
These sets are designed for people who already own a Smart Brick from an All-in-One set. They only contain Smart Tags, so they have to be bought as an add-on. Ten compatible sets have been announced:
- 72155 – Bulbasaur and Bidoof’s Berry Delight: 240 pieces, €19.99.
- 72156 – Squirtle’s Adventure with the Trainer’s Buggy: 320 pieces, €29.99.
- 72157 – Charmander and Geodude, the Battle in the Cave: 198 pieces, €19.99.
- 72158 – Battle between Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly: 313 pieces, featuring the three Paldea starters, €34.99.
- 72159 – Jigglypuff’s Concert: 88 pieces, €14.99.
- 72161 – Searching for the Mythical Mew by Drone: 429 pieces, €49.99.
- 72162 – Eevee and Lapras’s Treasure Hunt: 623 pieces, €59.99.
- 72163 – Mewtwo’s Lab Escape: 605 pieces, including Mewtwo, €69.99.
- 72165 – The Battle between Umbreon and Garchomp: 831 pieces, €79.99.
- 72166 – The Terrifying Clash between Cubone and Gengar: 782 pieces, €89.99.
