The Gym challenges
- Brock: the entry requirement forces you to catch a Grass or Water Pokémon, which makes the battle much easier, especially with Pikachu, whose Electric moves have no effect on Ground Pokémon.
- Lt. Surge: to reach the Leader, you have to cut the power by finding the right trash cans; the first is always next to the blue or the red trash can, the second next to the first.
- Koga: his Gym is full of invisible walls; the mist drifting along the floor sometimes lets you make them out.
- Sabrina: psychic teleporters send you from one room to another up to the top. Dark, Ghost and Bug types are effective.
- Blaine: his Gym is a quiz. Each wrong answer forces you into a battle against a Trainer; after five questions, you face the Leader.
- Viridian City: the Gym stays closed until the end of the adventure. It is run by Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket. After the League, Blue becomes the Viridian Gym Leader.
After the League, each Gym Leader can be battled again once a day, with a stronger team.
The Elite Four
After Victory Road, the Indigo Plateau awaits you with the same members as in the 1996 games:

The final battle pits the hero against their rival, Trace, who became Champion of the League before you. Our article The Elite Four and the Champion presents all the teams, and Rival: encounters and battles retraces each clash with Trace.
