Pokémon Rumble U was the first Wii U game to use the GamePad’s NFC reader, even before amiibo. Pokémon figures, sold in series of six plus one secret figure, add their Pokémon to the game. They are not compatible with amiibo. Here are the series and the special editions.
How it works
You place the figure on the GamePad: its Pokémon appears in the game as a powerful toy, ready to use in battle. Pokémon obtained through figures or passwords can also change their moves. In Japan, other single-use Pokémon could be obtained with chip cards.
The series
| Series | Figures | Secret figure |
|---|---|---|
| First | Bulbasaur, Pikachu, Torchic, Piplup, Lucario, Victini | Shiny Pikachu |
| Second | Eevee, Mewtwo, Croagunk, Zoroark, Litwick, Genesect | Shiny Eevee |
| Third | Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Darkrai, Shaymin | Shiny Genesect |
Special editions
- Pikachu knowing Thunder Punch and Dynamic Punch, sold with a game download code in Japanese Pokémon Centers.
- Lucario from Pokémon Smash!, in a limited edition of 200 copies.
- Genesect with each of its four Drives, and a Shiny Genesect knowing Extreme Speed, in limited editions of 100 copies.
- Black Kyurem and White Kyurem, distributed at the Pokémon Game Show in Japan and in a special edition from GAME stores in the United Kingdom.
In Europe
According to our news from July 2013, the figures were to be distributed in Europe exclusively by a single retailer, in limited numbers. They are now collector’s items.
