Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves open the 10th generation of the series. They were announced on February 27, 2026, Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, and will launch in 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2.

An announcement for the 30th anniversary

On February 27, 1996, Pokémon Green and Pokémon Red launched in Japan on Game Boy. Thirty years later to the day, The Pokémon Company chose the Pokémon Day Pokémon Presents to reveal the new generation. On the same day, Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen were released digitally on Nintendo Switch.

The anniversary was celebrated everywhere: a Pokémon TCG expansion released simultaneously around the world, a first, a global campaign inviting fans to share their favorite Pokémon, and the ten years of Pokémon GO.

What the 10th generation should bring

Each generation brings new Pokémon, a region, a battle mechanic and often a new way to explore. For Winds and Waves, we know about the island region and the open world; everything else will be revealed before launch.

  • New Pokémon: three known starters, the rest to come. See the list.
  • Battle mechanic: after Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Dynamax and Terastallization, the series often introduces something new each generation. Nothing has been announced.
  • Exploration: an open world of islands to “brave”. See the region.
