The evolutions of Browt, Pombon and Gecqua have not been revealed yet. However, the history of the previous 27 starters lets us anticipate a lot.

When will the evolutions be revealed?

Probably at the game’s launch, not before. For Sword and Shield as well as Scarlet and Violet, The Pokémon Company kept the starters’ evolutions secret until release: it has become a tradition, to leave the surprise to players. Leaks, for their part, often appear a few days or weeks beforehand.

What the series’ history teaches us

Two evolutions, around levels 16 and 36

All 27 starters have two evolutions. The first comes between levels 14 and 18, most often at level 16; the second between levels 30 and 36, most often at level 36. The last three generations used 17 and 34 (Alola), 16 and 35 (Galar), then 16 and 36 (Paldea).

A second type at the final stage, often

Of the 27 final forms, 17 have two types. That is the case for 5 of 9 Grass starters, 7 of 9 Fire starters and 5 of 9 Water starters. The latest generations have liked surprises: Decidueye became Ghost, Incineroar Dark, Primarina Fairy, Meowscarada Dark, Skeledirge Ghost and Quaquaval Fighting.

  • On the Fire side, the Fighting type is the most common second type (Blaziken, Infernape, Emboar), but no Fire starter has taken it since Black and White.
  • On the Water side, four final forms stayed pure Water type (Blastoise, Feraligatr, Samurott, Inteleon); the other five took a second type, from Ground to Fighting.
  • On the Grass side, Browt is a bird, like Rowlet, which was Grass/Flying from the start before becoming Grass/Ghost.

A final form around 530 stat points

Starters’ final forms total between 525 and 535 base stat points, versus 308 to 320 at the first stage. The Winds and Waves starters should follow the same scale.

Fan theories

What is Browt's evolution?

It has not been revealed yet. Browt should evolve twice, like all starters, around levels 16 and 36.

What is Pombon's evolution?

It is not known yet. Over nine generations, seven Fire starters gained a second type at their final form.

What is Gecqua's evolution?

It has not been revealed yet. The Pokémon Company generally keeps starter evolutions secret until the game’s release.
