Pokkén Tournament came with several products when it launched on Wii U: a Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card, a console bundle in Japan and a special controller made by HORI. Here is what each one offered.

The Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card

Unveiled during a Nintendo Direct in November 2015, the Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card was given to the first buyers of the game. Scanned with the GamePad, it unlocks Shadow Mewtwo immediately, who otherwise only becomes playable after the Chroma League. The European version of the card shows the name of the game in several languages, including the German title, Pokémon Tekken. Our news story: The Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card from Pokkén’s launch.

The Japanese bundle

In Japan, a bundle was sold at the game’s launch for 36,800 yen:

  • a black 32 GB Wii U;
  • Pokkén Tournament preinstalled, as a digital version;
  • the Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card;
  • a booklet presenting every technique of each fighter.

The Pokkén Tournament controller

Announced at the same time as the bundle, the HORI controller reproduces the layout of the arcade cabinet: a directional pad on the left, the X, Y, A and B buttons on the right, and a wired connection that eliminates any latency. It sold for 3,480 yen in Japan and was distributed in Europe. Several colors existed. It remained the reference controller at tournaments and also works with Pokkén Tournament DX on Switch, as we announced in 2017: the Pokkén Tournament controller will be compatible with the Switch.
