Pokémon France has followed Pokkén Tournament since its Japanese arcade release in July 2015, through to the tournaments of 2016 and 2018. This page presents and links to our archives on the arcade and Wii U version.

The wait (2015-2016)

We announced the game’s arcade release in Japan in July 2015, then its arrival on Wii U in spring 2016. The following months were marked by fighter reveals: Pikachu Libre in a video, Shadow Mewtwo in the trailer, Sceptile confirmed, Braixen, Mewtwo and Garchomp and Chandelure, as well as the announcement of the worldwide release on March 18 and of the Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card.

The release (March 2016)

On March 18, 2016, we published our verdict, a 17 out of 20 for a game “absolutely insane in its nervousness and power,” and ran a giveaway to win the game. A few days later, the Japanese sales put it at the top of the chart.

Updates and the arcade (2016)

We reported on the first patch in April and the 1.3 update in June, then the arrival on Japanese cabinets of Darkrai and Croagunk.

Competition

Pokkén joined official tournaments as early as 2016: the 2016 European National Championships, the tournaments at Japan Expo 2016, Neokan’s Pokémon Party and, in 2018, the WE Game in Châtillon.

The 2017 profiles

When the Switch version came out, we published a profile for each fighter and several guides, valid for both versions. They are linked from our Pokkén Tournament DX guide, on the Fighters page.
