Chapter four: Galar Mine No. 2, the return to Motostoke through the Wild Area, the battle against Marnie, then Kabu’s Stadium, home of the Fire-type Gym Leader.

Galar Mine No. 2

This cave, with its glowing crystal walls, links Hulbury to the outskirts of Motostoke. You can meet East Sea Shellos, Wimpod, Binacle, Scraggy (Sword) or Croagunk (Shield), and Shuckle. Galarian Stunfisk camouflage themselves on the ground: look for their Poké Ball-shaped mouth, or whistle to make them react.

Bede challenges you a second time in the mine.

Items: TM49 at the end of a short passage to the east, just south of the big open space; a Grip Claw and three Dusk Balls in the alcove on the left. TM53 requires the amphibious Rotom Bike: come back for it later.

Motostoke Riverbank

The mine exit takes you back into the Wild Area, to the outskirts and the riverbank of Motostoke. As everywhere in the Wild Area, the Pokémon you meet depend on the day’s weather: Skorupi and Purrloin are common, but you can also come across Sneasel in snow, Clefairy in fog or Rhyhorn in a sandstorm. A Fire Stone and TM39 are in an alcove near the wall to the west. Then head back up to Motostoke.

Marnie at the hotel

Back in Motostoke, Marnie offers you a battle at the Budew Drop Inn, where the challengers stay.

The next day, she hands you Kabu’s League Card and two Burn Heals, useful for the battle that follows.

Kabu’s Stadium

The Motostoke Stadium, Kabu’s domain.

The mission

You have to score five points by defeating or catching the wild Pokémon in the stadium: a KO is worth one point, a catch two. The three Trainers present cannot be fought directly: they team up with the wild Pokémon against you, in two-on-one battles. Knock out your opponent’s “teammate” first to keep it from stealing the catch. The tall grass hides a Vulpix (on the left), a Litwick (at the top) and a Sizzlipede (on the right).

Kabu is often cited as the first real wall of the adventure. His Pokémon use Will-O-Wisp, which burns and halves physical Attack: favor special attackers or keep Burn Heals on hand. Water, Rock and Ground types are effective; Centiskorch, a Fire/Bug type, is four times weak to Rock.

Rewards: the Fire Badge, 4,320 Poké Dollars and TM38 (Will-O-Wisp). With three Badges, you can catch stronger Pokémon in the Wild Area.

Next: chapter 5, Hammerlocke and Stow-on-Side.
