How a chapter works
- An objective is set by Pikachu, and shown at all times on the touch screen.
- Exploration: you talk to humans, and Pikachu translates what the Pokémon say. Each useful testimony is recorded in the notebook.
- Deduction: when you have enough information, you choose the right clues to answer Pikachu’s questions.
- Action scenes: at certain moments, you have to press A at the right time to dodge a danger or take action.
The game does not penalize mistakes: a wrong answer can be fixed by trying again. The mechanics are detailed in Getting Started.
Tips for moving forward
- Question everyone on every available topic: a missing clue often comes from a forgotten conversation.
- Talk to Pikachu when you are stuck: he reminds you of the objective and points your thinking in the right direction.
- Reread the notebook before a deduction: the clues are sorted there by case.
- Use the amiibo if you have it: it unlocks short videos that give clues. See The Detective Pikachu amiibo.
