Between dungeons, life in Red and Blue Rescue Team takes place in the Pokémon village. It is split into five parts: your team’s base, Pokémon Square and its shops, the Makuhita Dojo, the Pelipper Post Office and Whiscash Pond. Here is what each one is for.
Your team’s base
This is where the hero sleeps and where you save. Plain at first, it takes the shape of your Pokémon’s head after the Mankey work on it. Out front, a mailbox receives up to four missions delivered by Pelipper, and a flag can be decorated by Smeargle. Some feats are rewarded with statues:
- Bonsly Statue: finish all 17 mazes in the Makuhita Dojo.
- Lucario Statue: reach the Lucario rank.
- Mime Jr. and Weavile Statues: complete certain missions received through Wonder Mail.
Pokémon Square
| Place | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Kangaskhan Storage | Store items so you do not lose them if you faint. Rewards arrive here when your bag is full. |
| Kecleon Shop | The Kecleon on the right sells Orbs and TMs, the one on the left sells other items. |
| Bank | Deposit your money, which is lost if you faint while carrying it. |
| Gulpin Link Shop | Link moves so they are used one after another in the same turn, or unlink them. |
| Wigglytuff’s Club | Buy Friend Areas for the Pokémon you recruit. See Recruitment. |
The Makuhita Dojo
Makuhita offers three-floor training mazes, with a “boss” team on the third floor. You cannot recruit or find items in these mazes. Each maze is named after a type and contains Pokémon of that type.
- The type mazes: Normal, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Fighting, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Poison, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark and Steel.
- The team mazes: Team Shiftry, Team Tentacruel, Team Hydro and Team Golem.
- The Challenge Maze, exclusive to the Blue version: it appears if a Red cartridge has been inserted at least once in the DS’s Game Boy Advance slot. It does not count toward the Bonsly Statue.
Our original guide to training with Makuhita details each maze.
The Pelipper Post Office
In front of the post office, a board displays up to eight missions. Inside, you manage rescues between players: receive SOS Mail, head out on a rescue mission, send A-OK Mail and Thank-You Mail. See Differences and connections.
Whiscash Pond
Whiscash hands out a few items there as the story goes on. After the credits, it is also the way into the Luminous Spring, where one Pokémon at a time can try to evolve if it meets the conditions.
