Over the life of your Magikarp, random events occur, most often after training or a League battle. Some earn HP, coins or diamonds; others can end its career prematurely. Here is how they work and the list of events.

Early career endings

Three events can make your Magikarp leave before its time: it can be carried off by a Pidgeotto, evolve into a Gyarados or run into a Voltorb. You then have to catch a new Magikarp. These departures count toward an achievement, the one for retirements after an event.

Choices

Some events offer a choice, such as accepting or refusing a suspicious berry. The outcome is not always the same: the same choice can earn HP or lose some.
