Ranked Battles are the competitive heart of Pokémon Champions. Every win moves you toward the Champion tier, every loss can drop you back down, and each season ends with rewards based on your ranking.

Tiers and ranks

The ladder has five tiers. Each of the first four includes four ranks, from rank 4 to rank 1, before you move up to the next tier. The higher you climb, the better the rewards, but the longer the climb.

Win streaks

Every win moves you up, and a win streak speeds up your progress even more. Conversely, repeated losses lower your rank. Preferably play in sessions, and stop after several losses in a row.

Seasons

A season lasts about a month. At its end, your placement and rank determine your seasonal rewards. Seasons are grouped by regulation, which sets the allowed Pokémon.
  1. Season M-1

Regulation M-A, the game’s first season.

  2. Season M-2

    Regulation M-A.

  3. Season M-3

    Regulation M-B, mobile release.

  4. Season M-4

  5. Season M-5

  6. Season M-6

The Battle Pass, even when you lose

Ranked Battles also advance the Battle Pass through Seasonal Battle Score (SBS) points, earned based on your performance whether you win or lose. See Battle Pass.

Our tips for climbing

  1. A coherent team beats six strong Pokémon: make sure your weaknesses are covered and that you have an answer to the common Mega Evolutions.
  2. Prepare your Speed: stat alignment and the Choice Scarf often decide who strikes first.
  3. Study the selection screen: the selection aid shows useful data to help you pick the right Pokémon against the opposing team.
  4. Review your losses with the battle history, added with update 1.2.
