The Special Episodes are the big novelty of Explorers of Sky. These five side adventures, absent from Time and Darkness, let you play characters other than the hero and the partner. They shed light on their past or show what is happening elsewhere during the main story.
How they work
- Unlocking: the episodes open up as you progress through the main story.
- Access: they are launched from the title screen, without affecting your main save.
- One at a time: to start a new episode, you must finish or abandon the current one.
- Rewards: at the end of a successful episode, the money and items collected in the dungeons are sent to the Duskull Bank and the Kangaskhan Storage of your main save.
The five episodes
1. Bidoof’s Wish
You play Bidoof, before the hero and the partner arrive at the guild. A light-hearted episode that shows the daily life of the clumsiest apprentice of Wigglytuff’s Guild.
2. Igglybuff the Prodigy
A trip into the past: you play Wigglytuff when he was still an Igglybuff, at the start of his explorer career. A chance to understand how the future guildmaster became such a dreamy yet formidable character.
3. Sunflora’s Crisis
The hero of this episode is Sunflora, a member of the guild. She must face a particularly tough bandit: the Invincible Haunter.
4. Here Comes Team Charm!
You lead Lopunny, the leader of Team Charm, the high-ranking exploration team, as it sets out in search of a fabulous treasure. Team Charm brings together Lopunny, Gardevoir and Medicham.
5. In the Future of Darkness
The final episode is the most important one for the story. You play Grovyle, back in the future, alongside Dusknoir. The two characters cross the Dark Wasteland, then a dilapidated Temporal Tower, 10 floors followed by the 10 of Temporal Spire, in search of Primal Dialga. The episode sheds light on the events at the end of the main story.
Why play them
The Special Episodes add several hours of gameplay, bring items and money to your main save and give depth to secondary characters. For many fans, “In the Future of Darkness” is an integral part of the story of Explorers of Sky.
