In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, the Capture Styler fits inside a watch, support Pokémon appear on the field to help, and a single partner accompanies you: Ukulele Pichu. Here is how capturing and Capture Styler progression work in this entry.
Capturing
The principle is the same as in the rest of the series: draw loops around the Pokémon with the stylus while avoiding its attacks. What is new is Poké Assists: instead of modifying the capture line, friend Pokémon are sent onto the field and attack the target Pokémon themselves. Some targets also require several Field Moves at once.
Ukulele Pichu
Unlike Shadows of Almia, there is no choice of partner: Ukulele Pichu, met on Dolce Island, is your one and only partner. This Pichu plays the ukulele and follows you throughout the adventure.
Capture Styler stats
| Stat | Role |
|---|---|
| Energy | The equivalent of HP: at zero, the game is lost |
| Power | The damage dealt to the Pokémon with each successful loop |
| Line | The length of the capture line |
| Defense | The percentage of damage avoided when an attack hits the Capture Styler |
| Recharge | How fast the Capture Styler recharges |
| Recovery | The energy restored after each successful capture |
| Latent power | The damage bonus when energy is low |
Upgrading the Capture Styler
The Capture Styler levels up on its own, but this entry adds a pick-your-own progression system. By helping residents and capturing Pokémon, you earn Ranger points, which you spend to upgrade the stat of your choice. This lets you tailor the Capture Styler to your style: more energy to take hits, more power to finish quickly, a longer line for big loops.
The new Capture Styler also has a function called Copilot.
