The first part of our Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs walkthrough: from the hero’s fall into the ocean to the encounter with Raikou at the top of the Radio Tower, on Renbow Island. This is the part where you discover Oblivia, its Chief Ranger, Rand, and the Pokémon Pinchers.

Prologue: the Sky of Oblivia

The game opens in mid-flight, on the back of Staraptor, in the Sky of Oblivia. Your hero, Ben or Summer, spots a Latios being attacked by two Pokémon Pincher henchmen and steps in, giving the legendary time to escape. Red Eye, one of the Pokémon Pinchers’ leaders, then arrives and aims a plasma beam at your partner: your hero steps in the way and falls into the sea.

Dolce Island and Ukulele Pichu

Washed up on Dolce Island, you meet your new partner, Pichu, a Pichu that plays the ukulele. Booker, an old man from Cocona Village, offers to take you back to Renbow Island. This is where your mission in Oblivia truly begins.

Renbow Island

  1. The Teakwood Forest: a few Pokémon Pincher henchmen block access to Sarape Cave. Capture the Pokémon they are controlling to get through.
  2. Sarape Cave: you meet Cheron there, then catch Pokémon Pinchers stealing a strange sign carved on a stele. Raikou appears and puts the thieves to flight.
  3. Lapras Beach: Nema, Rand’s daughter, asks you to fish out a “UFO” that is sinking in the Coral Sea. Once the craft is brought ashore, she invites you to go with her to the area Ranger’s house.
  4. The fire: the house catches fire, and it is up to you to put it out with the help of Pokémon.

The Radio Tower

You then head for the Radio Station, where Rand, Oblivia’s Chief Ranger, was last seen. You find him, along with Leanne, his wife and a renowned archaeologist. But the Pokémon Pinchers storm the Radio Tower: together with Rand, you climb to the top to stop them.

At the top, Blue Eye, the other Pokémon Pincher leader, awaits, and her henchmen hand her the stele stolen from Sarape Cave. Raikou bursts in and destroys the antenna; the Pokémon Pinchers flee, and you have to calm Raikou down.

Raikou, the first legendary of the adventure.

Once Raikou is calmed, its sign is registered in your Capture Styler. Shortly after, you discover that you can now summon it by drawing this sign: it is your first legendary Ranger Sign. See Legendaries and Ranger Signs.

Tips for this part

  • Get the hang of capturing on the Pokémon of the Teakwood Forest: the loops are the same as in the previous games.
  • Test out Poké Assists: in this entry, Pokémon appear on the field to help.
  • Raikou is fast: Ukulele Pichu and Poké Assists that hold the target still help a lot.
