Just starting Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs? Here is what you need to get off to a good start in the Oblivia archipelago, whether or not you have played the previous games.
The basics
You play as Ben or Summer, a Ranger from the Union on assignment in Oblivia. After falling into the sea, you meet Ukulele Pichu, your partner, and set off on the trail of the Pokémon Pinchers, who capture Pokémon to resell them.
Core gestures
| Gesture | Use |
|---|---|
| Capture | Draw loops around the Pokémon with the stylus, without letting its attacks hit the line |
| Field Move | Use a friend Pokémon in front of an obstacle; some obstacles need several |
| Poké Assist | Send a friend Pokémon onto the field to attack during a capture |
| Ranger Sign | Draw a symbol to call a Pokémon, outside of caves and buildings |
| Flight | Travel through the Sky of Oblivia on the back of Staraptor, then Latios or Latias |
Eight tips
- Upgrade the Capture Styler with your Ranger points: start with power and line.
- Help the residents: quests earn you points for the Capture Styler.
- Keep a varied team of Pokémon for Field Moves and Poké Assists.
- Draw your signs charged: the Pokémon you call are stronger.
- Explore the sky: rare Pokémon can be captured up there.
- Recharge the Capture Styler before every legendary.
- Fill the Navigator: meeting 300 Pokémon unlocks Lugia after the story.
- Try multiplayer once you have completed the objective “Investigate the old mansion!”
