What The Pokémon Company says
Appearance and inspirations
Mr. Windychu is every bit the vacationer: a light blue wide-brimmed sun hat decorated with a flower, sunglasses with purple lenses and a short-sleeved white shirt covered in blue and purple floral patterns. It raises a paw, mouth wide open, as if waving hello.
Its French name, Tornachu, comes from “tornade” (tornado); its English name, Mr. Windychu, from “windy.” Both point to the wind, and therefore to Pokémon Winds.
A Pikachu duo
Mr. Windychu is not alone: Ms. Wavychu appeared in the same trailer. Both wear tropical outfits, and their names evoke the wind and the waves, the two themes of the games. To learn all about the original Pokémon, see the Pikachu page.
Its name in other languages
| Language | Name | Likely origin |
