It is the end of an adventure of almost six years. The Pokémon Company announces that Pokémon UNITE will shut down on Tuesday, March 23, 2027, on Nintendo Switch and mobile alike. Aeos Gems are already no longer on sale, but the game plans one last celebration and an “Archives” mode to preserve your memories.

The announcement was published this Tuesday morning on the game’s official website. Launched on July 21, 2021 on Nintendo Switch, then on September 22, 2021 on iOS and Android, the franchise’s first MOBA will thus have lived a little over five and a half years. “We regret to inform you that the Pokémon UNITE service will be ending,” writes the publisher, which thanks the Trainers who have kept the battlegrounds of Aeos Island alive since day one. No official reason is given.

The schedule until the shutdown, in Paris time

The shutdown will happen in stages. Here are the dates to remember, converted to French time:

  • Tuesday, October 27, 2026, 6:00 a.m.: end of sales of Aeos Gems and new Unite Membership subscriptions. Automatic renewals are also cut off.
  • Thursday, November 12, 2026, 5:00 a.m.: update with a special farewell event and the opening of the “Archives” mode.
  • Saturday, December 5, 2026: start of the qualifying tournaments for the Tokyo Aeos Crown 2027.
  • Tuesday, March 23, 2027, 1:00 a.m.: end of service. No more logging in or battling.

Aeos Gems you have already bought remain usable until the last day: now is the time to spend them rather than let them sit idle. The same goes for Unite Membership subscribers, who keep their benefits until the end of their current period, with no renewal. The official announcement, however, mentions no refund.

One last event and an “Archives” mode not to be missed

To say goodbye, Pokémon UNITE will launch an event on November 12 that will last until the shutdown. A new currency, Unite Coins, can be earned through a login bonus and special missions: each win in a ranked match or in the other battle modes will earn one or more. They can be exchanged for items already released in the game, including Unite Licenses, Holowear, fashion items and decorations for Unite Photos. A great chance to complete your collection before the shutdown.

The “Archives” mode is the real good news of the announcement. Even after March 23, 2027, it will let you go to the training area and view your Holowear, Unite Licenses, fashion items, Emblems or even your tournament results. The team also says it is working on a way to relive your best battle memories.

Beware, though: one condition is mandatory. The Archives data must have been downloaded before the shutdown. The download will take place during your normal matches or on your first visit to the Archives, starting November 12. Without it, you will not be able to access the Archives after March 23. This data generally cannot be transferred to another device, and no customer support will be provided once the service has ended: if you run into a problem, you will need to contact support before the fateful date.

An ending that had been looming since summer

The most attentive players had sensed the wind turning. On July 15, 2026, The Pokémon Company announced that Pokémon UNITE would not be part of the 2027 Pokémon World Championships, even though it had been featured since the 2022 edition in London. Instead, a separate tournament, the Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027, is planned in Tokyo at the end of March 2027 with up to 32 teams. It is going ahead: its online qualifiers will begin on December 5, making it the game’s last major competitive event.

The game had also already left two European countries: Belgium and the Netherlands, where the service ended on November 30, 2025. This time, it is a worldwide shutdown. Developed by TiMi Studio Group (Tencent Games) for The Pokémon Company, Pokémon UNITE had nevertheless left its mark with its five-on-five battles, where Pikachu, Cinderace, Greninja, Gengar or Mr. Mime fight over the field to score points. The game was still receiving new fighters only a few days ago: Jolteon et Flareon arrived during the Eevee Festival on October 13.
