In Pokémon UNITE, you don’t win by knocking out the most opponents, but by scoring the most points. Understanding how Aeos energy circulates and how goal zones work is the first step to winning.

Preparation

Before each battle, a one-minute phase lets you choose your Pokémon, your held items and your battle item. Only one player per team can pick a given Pokémon. This is the time to check that the team mixes roles: Attackers, Defenders, Supporters.

Aeos energy and the Unite Ball

Knocking out a wild or opposing Pokémon earns Aeos energy, stored in your Unite Ball. Its capacity depends on your level:

  • levels 1 to 8: up to 30 points;
  • levels 9 to 11: up to 40 points;
  • levels 12 to 15: up to 50 points.

If your Unite Ball is full, the energy falls to the ground as yellow orbs that anyone can pick up. If you are knocked out, you lose part of your energy.

Wild Pokémon give experience and Aeos energy.

Scoring a goal

To score, you must stay in an opposing goal zone long enough for the goal to register. The more points you carry, the longer it takes. Any attack you receive or action you take during this time interrupts the goal: you keep your points, but have to start over.
Defense

Your team's zones

They continuously restore your Pokémon’s HP: this is where to fall back.

Offense

Opposing zones

Each goal weakens them; once a zone has received enough points, it is destroyed and you have to aim for the next one.

Healing

Sitrus Berries

Along with your team’s zones, they are the main way to recover HP during the match.

Wild Pokémon and the legendary

Wild Pokémon regularly appear on the map. Others, more powerful, show up at specific spots and give big advantages to the team that knocks them out. Near the end of the match, depending on the stage, a legendary Pokémon appears: defeating it can turn around a match that was going badly.

The end of the battle

The team that scored the most points wins. A results screen then details performances: each player receives an overall score that takes into account their KOs, assists and points scored, and the best score on each team is named MVP.
