Pokémon Snap features 63 photographable species out of the 151 of the first generation. Each one has a page in our site’s Pokédex, and this list takes you there. It also tells you which course or courses to find it on, the item that triggers its best pose and, when useful, the details of the scene. For the full method, there is one walkthrough page per course; here, you can find everything in a single table.

How to read this list

Each course has its Pokémon sheet, followed by a note for each species. The short label indicates the most useful item for the best pose: “Apple”, “Pester Ball”, “Flute” or “Dash Engine”. A species without a label can be photographed without an item, or at least without a decisive one. Species that evolve on screen (Slowpoke, Magnemite, Grimer, Magikarp, Charmeleon, etc.) are each listed in their own right, because the game counts them as distinct species in the Report. See the page on on-screen evolutions on this topic.

The columns add up to 73 appearances for 63 species: ten of them show up on several courses. Magikarp is everywhere except the Rainbow Cloud, Pikachu appears on the Beach, in the Tunnel, on the River and in the Cave, and Zubat and Bulbasaur each appear on two courses.

The absentees and the curiosities

88 species of the first generation do not appear in the game. Critics at the time regretted this selection: N64 Magazine and IGN noted that Pokémon fans could only be disappointed by the chosen list, and several outlets lamented the absence of nearly a hundred species. Bulbapedia, citing the documentation site The Cutting Room Floor, states that Ekans was planned but was ultimately removed. Our page on the behind-the-scenes of development covers it.

Six other species are indirectly present, in the form of the six Pokémon Signs: Kingler, Pinsir, Cubone and Mewtwo can only be photographed that way; Koffing and Dugtrio, on the other hand, also exist as real species on the island. The Pokémon Signs have their own page.

For the three legendary birds, Mew and the other rarities, see the page on legendaries and rarities. And for Pokémon that hide under another appearance, see disguised and hidden Pokémon.
