The Victory Palace is the hall of fame of Pokémon Stadium. Every time you win a tournament, the Pokémon on your team receive a statue there. The ultimate goal, reserved for the most patient: get all 151 species on display to receive a unique Psyduck.
When Is a Pokémon Registered?
Registration only happens at the end of a complete tournament:
- when you win a Stadium cup: the Pika Cup, the Petit Cup, or the Master Ball division of the Poké Cup and the Prime Cup (the Poké Ball, Great Ball and Ultra Ball divisions register nothing);
- when you beat the Rival at the top of the Gym Leader Castle.
All the Pokémon on your team then enter the Palace, including those that did not fight in the final. Rental Pokémon count just as much as those from your cartridges.
What the Statue Remembers
For each species, the Palace keeps a record: the Pokémon’s nickname, its level, the name and ID number of its original Trainer, and the tournament it won. You can walk among the statues in 3D and look at them one by one.
Completing All 151 Statues
This is one of the longest challenges in the game. With six Pokémon per victory, you need at least 26 tournament wins, and in practice far more, because the cup rules limit the species you can enter. Here is our method:
- Use the small cups for weak Pokémon. The Petit Cup accepts unevolved Pokémon like Caterpie, Weedle, Magikarp or Rattata, which would have no chance anywhere else. The Pika Cup accepts 91 Rental Pokémon at level 15.
- Bring in five new Pokémon with each victory. Keep one or two strong Pokémon to win the battles and fill out the team with species that are still missing: only three Pokémon fight per match, so the other three can be “passengers”.
- Use the Castle, which can be replayed at will, where all Pokémon are allowed and whose final victory registers the team.
- Save Mewtwo and Mew for last. Mewtwo is never lent out: it has to come from a cartridge (it can be caught in Cerulean Cave, after the Pokémon League). Mew is only lent out in Round 2, in the Prime Cup; otherwise, you need a Mew from an official distribution.
- Keep a list of the species already registered: every tournament won with a Pokémon that is already there is a wasted slot.
The Reward: Psyduck and Amnesia
When the 151st species enters the Palace, the game gives you a level 15 Psyduck that knows Scratch and Amnesia, a move Psyduck cannot learn in the Game Boy games. It is deposited into your cartridge by the Lab, with STADIUM as its original Trainer. Traded to the second generation, it holds a Gorgeous Box.
Amnesia doubles Psyduck’s Special stat, which on paper makes it a formidable special attacker once evolved into Golduck. Above all, it is a collector’s trophy, proof of a game completed at 100%. For all the rewards in the game, see our summary.
