Pokémon Stadium is the first console game where the 151 Pokémon of the first generation battle in 3D. All of them have been modeled, animated and given a cry that sounds more realistic than on Game Boy. This table lists all of them, linked to their Pokédex entry, with their availability as rentals in each mode.

What you need to know

  • Every Pokémon is playable if you own it in a Pokémon Red, Blue or Yellow cartridge, subject to each cup’s rules (level, evolution, height and weight in the Petit Cup, Mew and Mewtwo banned in some cups).
  • Mewtwo is never lent out. You have to catch it in the Cerulean Cave in Pokémon Red, Blue or Yellow.
  • Mew is only lent out in the Prime Cup in Round 2 (“Round 2” in the table).
  • The “Castle” column covers rentals at the Gym Leader Castle, where moves differ from those in the Poké Cup despite the same level 50.

The 3D Pokédex

At Professor Oak’s Lab, your game’s Pokédex is shown with 3D Pokémon models, an alphabetical listing and a map of Kanto showing their habitats and levels. It is the ideal tool for spotting the Pokémon missing from your collection before heading back to the Game Boy games.

Completing your collection

The Game Boy games do not let you obtain all 151 Pokémon in a single version: you have to trade between Red, Blue and Yellow. The trading machine in the Lab acts as a Link Cable, using two Transfer Paks. Pokémon Stadium also gives you Pokémon that are unique in the Game Boy games (starter Pokémon, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Eevee, Omanyte, Kabuto) after each victory against the Rival at the Castle: see the rewards. And winning a tournament with all 151 species earns you the Psyduck that knows Amnesia, described on the Victory Palace page.
