Announced in midsummer for the franchise’s 30th anniversary, the Polaroid x Pokémon collection officially launched on October 5, 2026. Three instant cameras themed after Pikachu, Sylveon and the Poké Ball, films with illustrated frames and a range of accessories: the brand presents it as the biggest collaboration in its history. And it is a hit, since all three cameras already showed “out of stock” on Polaroid’s French store this Wednesday, October 7.

The collection is built on two models well known to instant photography fans, completely reworked for the occasion. They all share a detail that will make Trainers smile: the shutter button looks like a Poké Ball.

  • Polaroid Now Generation 3 – Pokémon Edition: the classic square-format model dressed in white, red and black like a Poké Ball. It keeps the dual-lens autofocus, the self-timer and the double exposure mode, uses i-Type film and comes in Poké Ball-shaped packaging, with a matching wrist strap.
  • Polaroid Go Generation 3 – Pikachu Edition: the brand’s smallest analog instant camera, all in yellow, with a lightning bolt-shaped wrist strap that echoes the mascot’s tail. A selfie mirror, a boosted flash and Polaroid Go film are on the menu.
  • Polaroid Go Generation 3 – Sylveon Edition: the same base in a mix of pink and white, with Sylveon’s silhouette drawn on the body and a pastel pink, white and blue wrist strap.

As for accessories, the Poké Ball is everywhere: a Poké Ball-shaped protective case for the Polaroid Go, a matching little photo album that holds 36 shots in Go format, and a Pokémon Edition strap compatible with all the cameras in the collection.

Illustrated films and collectible darkslides

The Pokémon Edition i-Type color film offers 18 all-new frames, 8 of them at random in each pack. The Pokémon Company notably mentions Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Gengar, Umbreon and Mimikyu, while the official visuals also show Snorlax and Espeon at the bottom of a frame.

For the Polaroid Go, two double packs of 16 photos are available: one with a bright yellow frame in which Pikachu strikes different poses, the other with a pastel frame featuring Sylveon.

Each film pack also contains a darkslide, the black card that protects the photos before the first shot and that is usually thrown away. Here, it features a Pokémon’s silhouette along with its Pokédex number. Polaroid has revealed the one for Flareon (No. 136) and hints at other numbers on its tracking tool, including No. 7 (Squirtle), No. 151 (Mew) and No. 197 (Umbreon). Members of the Polaroid website can register their darkslides to track their collection. Bonus: scanning 5 Pokémon darkslides gives a code for a free film pack (i-Type or Go) when you buy 5 identical eligible packs, from September 28, 2026 to January 31, 2027, limited to one reward per person.

Key takeaways

With three genuinely reworked cameras, illustrated films and numbered darkslides designed for collecting, Polaroid x Pokémon goes beyond a simple licensing operation. For Mathieu Galante, Senior Director of Licensing at The Pokémon Company International, this partnership naturally extends Pokémon’s spirit of discovery and sharing, inviting fans to turn their memories into real objects. The cameras have already disappeared from the French store, but films and accessories remain available for now, enough to equip a Polaroid you already own.
