Alongside the adventure, Pokémon Colosseum offers a full Battle Mode, heir to the cups of Pokémon Stadium: eight-Trainer tournaments in the Colosseums of Orre, Mt. Battle, and battles with friends for up to four players. This is also where you win Ho-Oh.

A battle in an Orre Colosseum.

The two Battle Mode options

  • Colosseum Battle: take on the computer in the tournaments of the various Colosseums or at Mt. Battle, alone (Single Player Battle) or with several players.
  • Quick Battle: an instant battle, with rental Pokémon teams that are partly random, between players or against the computer, in Single or Double Battles.

Which Pokémon can you use?

You can battle with the team from your Story Mode or with the Pokémon from a Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed or LeafGreen cartridge, connected with the GameCube-Game Boy Advance cable. Teams can be saved and reused. Apart from Quick Battle, there are no rental Pokémon as in Pokémon Stadium: you need Pokémon of your own. Battles are played as Single Battles (one or two players) or Double Battles (up to four players).

The Colosseum tournaments

Each tournament chains together eight Trainers with carefully built teams. Your Pokémon are healed between battles. Tournaments come in Single Battle and Double Battle versions, with different opponents.

Pyrite Colosseum50

Orre Colosseum50, then 100

At Level 50, your Pokémon are adjusted to that level; Level 100 tournaments call for a team trained accordingly.

Mt. Battle in Battle Mode

Mt. Battle can also be played in Battle Mode, in Single or Double Battles, at Level 50. The Mt. Battle 100-battle challenge, in Single Player Battle, is the one that gives you Ho-Oh, provided you have caught and purified every Shadow Pokémon in your Story Mode. Details on our Mt. Battle page.

Poké Coupons

Wins in Battle Mode earn Poké Coupons, which can be exchanged for TMs, held items and rare Berries, usable in the adventure or given to a Pokémon sent to the Game Boy Advance. Some rare Berries can only be obtained this way.
