The Unown (Unown in the Pokédex) are one of the secret hunts in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Twenty-eight forms, from the letter A to Z plus the exclamation mark and the question mark, are hidden all over the Hisui region. They do not move around and have no favorite food: they are the only wild Pokémon in the game in that situation. You have to find them one by one, following clues the game writes into the research notes. This page gives the exact location of all 28 forms, area by area, along with how to spot them.

How to unlock the hunt

The Unown quest is triggered the first time you come back from the Solaceon Ruins, in the Crimson Mirelands: an Unown interrupts you and then flies off, and Professor Laventon adds the Unown research notes to your Pokédex. These notes track the number of forms you have caught and give a hint about the location of the next one. When you come across an Unown, throw a Poké Ball: if it escapes, leave the area and come back to make it reappear.

Unown.

Once you have caught all 28 forms, Unown also appear at the Solaceon Ruins and during Massive Mass Outbreaks; you can then catch more of them, including Alpha or shiny ones. For how Massive Mass Outbreaks work, see mass outbreaks and Massive Mass Outbreaks.

Tips to find them without spending all night

  • Start with the five areas in the order in which you unlock them: the number of forms is the same everywhere (five per area) and three remain in Jubilife Village.
  • Look up high: several Unown are on trees, cliffs or pillars. The right mount, such as Sneasler for climbing or Braviary for gliding, saves time. See our mounts and legendaries.
  • Bring plenty of Poké Balls: an Unown that escapes only comes back after a trip out of the area.

This hunt is optional and unrelated to story progression, but it completes the Unown Pokédex page. For other collections, see the 107 Wisps and the side requests.
