Beyond the five zones of the adventure, Pokémon Pokopia offers two special types of islands. Dream Islands, which you can visit once a day thanks to Drifloon, are packed with rare resources and hide legendary Pokémon. Cloud Islands, meanwhile, are online islands you build from scratch, alone or with up to four players. Here is how to get there and how to make the most of them.

Dream Islands: unlocking Drifloon

Drifloon has a unique specialty, Dream Island, which lets it carry you to these islands. You can find it in the west of Withered Wastelands, near the beaches, in an area that becomes accessible once you have learned Rock Smash. To make use of its specialty, you must first complete its Request, “A Plushie to Find”.

To set off, show a plushie to Drifloon. There is no need to travel to it every time: interacting with any plushie placed in your town brings it straight to you.

Which plushie for which island?

The plushie you choose determines the type of island, and therefore its main resources and the legendary Pokémon that may be hiding there:

Legendary Pokémon are found deep inside a cave, often behind crumbly walls that you break with Rock Smash. Their presence is never guaranteed: several trips are sometimes needed. Once you find one, just talk to it and it will follow you and settle in a habitat in one of your towns.

What you will find on a Dream Island

  • Plenty of resources, without having to damage your towns: it is the best place to stock up on ore and materials.
  • Five Pokémetal ingots, sitting on a pedestal in a cave on each island.
  • Stardust, found nowhere else, to be assembled into a Star Piece.
  • Furniture to pick up from Poké Balls and in the ruins on the surface.
  • Human Records left behind by humans, CD shelves and sometimes outfits to unlock.
  • Clues to habitats not yet known to your Habitat Dex.

Above the building where Drifloon drops you off, a workbench and a weather-changing device are always available. Dream Islands, however, are home to no wild Pokémon apart from the legendary ones.

Rules to know

  • Only one Dream Island per day: once you have been to one, you can return as many times as you like that day, but you cannot switch to another.
  • Each new day, Drifloon forgets the previous day’s island: everything you left there is lost for good.
  • To go back, talk to Drifloon again, or use the “Return Home” option in the + menu.

Cloud Islands: building online

Cloud Islands are islands with progression separate from your adventure, which you can shape freely and share. Up to three other people can join you there. A Nintendo Switch Online membership and an Internet connection are required, and the “Online Play” option must have been unlocked at the PC in Withered Wastelands.

Creating or joining a Cloud Island

  1. From a PC, open “Online Connection”, then “Play on a Cloud Island”.
  2. Choose “Create a New Cloud Island”: the island can be generated randomly or from a code.
  3. Set its options: public island or not, virtual mode, password, and whether visitors can save it.
  4. To join a friend’s island, enter its code or choose an island you have already visited.

You can only own one Cloud Island at a time: to create a new one, you must delete the previous one.

When you leave the island, your inventory is automatically stored in its PC, and everything gathered there stays there, including what your friends found. The recipes and habitats discovered on the island, however, come with you into your main adventure.

A blank island to bring back to life

A Cloud Island starts out empty: only a PC and a Pokémon Center to rebuild await you. It features environments from the four main zones (Withered Wastelands, Bleak Beach, Rocky Ridges and Sparkling Skylands), so that you can recreate every habitat. The island has its own Pokédex, its own Environment Level that starts again from level 1, its own challenges and its own shop. Pokémon are recruited through habitats there, as elsewhere, but they are not the ones from your save: their friendship starts from zero.

The Cloud Island shop sells, among other things, plushies, workbenches, furnaces and the cement mixer from the first level, as well as the Clear Bell and the Tidal Bell once the habitats of the three legendary beasts and the three legendary birds have been built.

Virtual mode and official islands

A public island can be visited in virtual mode using the mysterious glasses sold in the shop: you walk around without changing anything. The owner can also enable this mode so that the changes made by visitors are not kept. The Pokémon Company regularly publishes official islands to visit this way:

Tips

  • Choose your plushie according to your current needs: Arcanine for iron and gold, Dragonite for Pokémetal, Clefairy for copper and limestone.
  • Bring something to store things in and leave with everything: whatever stays on a Dream Island disappears the next day.
  • Always start with the cave with the pedestal: the five Pokémetal ingots are guaranteed.
  • Pick up all the Stardust you come across: it is the only source of Star Pieces.
  • On a shared Cloud Island, enable virtual mode if you invite strangers, to protect your builds.
