In Pokémon Pokopia, cooking isn’t just a matter of taste. A good dish restores Ditto‘s PP, temporarily strengthens its moves, delights Pokémon and multiplies Mosslax’s bonuses. This guide covers the vegetable garden, the cooking utensils, every recipe in the game and the Expansion Pass, as well as DJ Rotom’s CDs so you can cook to music.

The vegetable garden: growing your ingredients

Growing crops takes four things: seeds, suitable soil, water and time. Seeds can be obtained in several ways: by cutting a wild plant with Cut, which always drops its seed, by buying them in the shop depending on your Environment Level, as gifts from your Pokémon, or by searching the ripples in the water.

  • Soil: vegetables only grow in earth that has first been tilled with the tilling move.
  • Water: every plant must be watered each day, by rain, by Water Gun, by an adjacent stream or by an automatic sprinkler (itself supplied with water). A submerged plant won’t grow, and arid soil makes it wither.
  • Time: a watered plant advances one stage per day (seed, sprout, flowering, maturity).
  • A helping hand: once per day and per plant, a Pokémon with the Grow specialty, such as Bulbasaur, can move it forward one stage. The plant sparkles to show it’s done.

Each vegetable first appears in its home area, but its seeds can then be planted anywhere. A mature plant yields one vegetable per day, up to four per plant; wheat is the exception, with three ears harvested at once before a new cycle begins. As for Berries, the Leppa Berry tree is common to every save, but each save has only one other type of Berry tree: the rest are obtained through trading or from other players.

Chef Dente and the cooking utensils

Cooking is unlocked in Rocky Ridges, alongside Chef Dente, a Greedent chef who never leaves his utensils behind. His Requests provide the crafting methods for the utensils; the pot, meanwhile, is found in Rocky Ridges. Each family of dishes requires its own utensil and base ingredient:

To cook, stand in front of the utensil and choose your ingredients; the resulting dish is displayed if you already know it. You can prepare several portions at once if your supplies allow. If a Pokémon is with you and has the required specialty, it acts as your kitchen helper and unlocks special recipes.

All the recipes

The tables list each dish’s flavor, its key ingredients and, where applicable, the specialty of the helper Pokémon required. “Ingredient(s) of your choice” means any food item completes the recipe. Dishes marked with an asterisk use ingredients from the Bubbly Basin Expansion Pass.

What are dishes for?

  • Restoring PP: any dish restores all of Ditto’s PP to the maximum.
  • Strengthening a move: the move concerned gains new effects as long as its yellow PP bar isn’t empty, without drawing on the PP of your other moves. Leafage makes grass grow on harder ground and moss; Water Gun waters a wider area; Cut slices through metal and fires a blade of wind; Rock Smash breaks hard blocks in fewer hits (even fewer with the Potato or Loaded Burger); Surf speeds up underwater swimming, in the form of Lapras.
  • Pleasing Pokémon: dishes are more appreciated than raw ingredients, especially if they match the Pokémon’s tastes.
  • Feeding Mosslax: the flavor of the dish placed on its altar determines the day’s bonus, and an elaborate dish gives a far stronger effect than a simple Berry.

Bonus: DJ Rotom and his CDs

In Rocky Ridges, you’ll meet DJ Rotom, a Rotom installed in a mini hi-fi system. Give it CDs and it will play them on a loop, up to five at a time; if it comes along with you, the music follows you everywhere. A simple CD player also lets you listen to a disc.

The CDs feature iconic themes from the series, from the Pokémon Red and Blue title screen to Pallet Town, along with music from Gold and Silver, Ruby and Sapphire, or Diamond and Pearl. You can find them on the CD shelves in the ruins, notably on the Dream Islands, and by digging up treasures in the ground. Some discs contain several tracks, with arrangements from the remakes.

Tips

  • Set up an automatic sprinkler in the middle of your garden: it waters a wide area every day for you.
  • Keep a Grow Pokémon near your crops to gain one day of growth per plant per day.
  • Cook before a long mining session: a burger transforms Rock Smash and saves a lot of PP.
  • Vary the flavors (one Berry of each type, mushrooms, seaweed) so you can choose Mosslax’s bonus each day.
  • Remember to bring the right helper Pokémon: without it, you can’t prepare the Julienne Salad, the Soft Bread or the Extra Spicy Burger.
