In Pokémon Pokopia, Pokémon aren’t just residents: they’re friends, and Ditto chats with them, plays with them and shares moments worth capturing. This guide explains how friendship works, what it gets you, and details the activities that make it grow: quizzes, jump rope, hide-and-seek camouflage and the hunt for Best Moments.

How friendship works

Each Pokémon has its own friendship gauge with Ditto. It is separate from Comfy Level, but contributes to it. Several actions make it grow:

  • Chat with them, especially when they call out to you.
  • Complete their Requests.
  • Give them a gift : hold an item from your Bag, talk to the Pokémon and choose to give it to them.
  • Play with them when they invite you to.
  • Pamper them : in the Bubbly Basin Expansion Pass, some Pokémon that accompany you clean the Pokémon you meet, which boosts their friendship and comfort.

An offering with no dominant flavor left in front of Mosslax also speeds up friendship progress for the whole day.

What friendship gets you

The stronger the bond, the happier the Pokémon is to see you, and the more gifts it gives you, often materials it has found. As it nears the maximum, it calls you by your name rather than “Ditto”. At the top, it comes to tell you that you have become best friends : a special mark then appears on its Pokédex entry.

The mini-games Pokémon offer

From time to time, a Pokémon comes to invite you to play. It may be a quiz, often about another Pokémon it knows well, or a guessing game where you have to predict which direction it will look, over three rounds. Playing always boosts friendship; winning boosts it even more. So never hesitate to accept.

Jump rope with Bulbasaur

Once Bulbasaur has become your friend and the Pokémon Center has been rebuilt, talk to it to start a game of jump rope: press at the right moment to jump over its vine. The pace speeds up every ten successful jumps, then becomes irregular beyond fifty jumps.

Successful jumpsReward
0 to 493 copper ore
50 to 991 jar of honey
100 or more1 small Lost Item
Standard game

In multiplayer, touching the vine eliminates the player; the last one standing wins. Eliminated players can speed up or slow down the rope to make things harder for those who remain.

Jump rope challenges

Regularly, Bulbasaur organizes a one-day jump rope challenge at the Pokémon Center, which can also be played with several people online. Rewards depend on the number of jumps:

JumpsReward
5 or more5 Leppa Berries
10 or more1 Star Piece
20 or more3 large Lost Items
30 or more3 Rainbow Wings
40 or more3 Silver Wings
50 or moreThe challenge trophy, with the date and your record

Camouflage with Zorua

After learning Mimic from Zorua, talk to it to play camouflage. You are sent far from the Pokémon Center, with three minutes to reach and touch the PC without being spotted by the seeker Pokémon. If one of them finds you, you restart from a different starting point.

  • Use Mimic to blend into any nearby object, and don’t move when a seeker is looking in your direction.
  • You can also create a diversion by placing objects or using reactions.
  • In multiplayer, camouflage becomes a team game: it only takes one player to touch the PC for the whole team to win.

Best Moments

Sometimes a Pokémon interacts in a special way with an object or with another Pokémon. A notification lets you know: take out the camera, and a pink frame appears around the scene. Take the photo to add it to your Best Moments, which you can view in the Collect menu. Missing moments only show their title, as a hint. Some unlock a photo frame to customize your shots, and you can replace a photo with a better one at any time from the album.

Reactions

The reaction wheel is used to communicate with other players or to liven up your photos; you can customize it with your favorite reactions. Six reactions are available from the start, and the others are obtained by reading certain Human Records, as gifts from your Pokémon friends, or by receiving visits from certain Pokémon from another player’s island.

Tips

  • Check in on your Pokémon every day: a chat and a small gift are enough to boost friendship.
  • Accept every invitation to play: even a loss boosts friendship.
  • Don’t miss the jump rope challenges: clearing 100 jumps earns you 10 rare Pokémetal ingots.
  • For Best Moments, set up the requested objects near the relevant habitats and keep the camera at hand.
  • Turn on electrical objects (street lamp, fan, diffuser): several Best Moments only trigger with a device that is running.
