The Habitat Dex in Pokémon Pokopia lists 209 habitats in the base game: each one is a small scene to build, and each attracts its own Pokémon. This guide explains how habitats work, then gives the full list, number by number, with the items to gather and the Pokémon likely to move in.

How habitats work

In Pokopia, Pokémon don’t just appear at random: to see them show up, Ditto has to set up a habitat. This is a small set of items (grass, flowers, trees, water, furniture, objects) placed side by side. Once the habitat is complete, you have to wait a little: a Pokémon eventually moves in, and one of the items starts moving to signal its presence. Just interact with it and the Pokémon will come to meet you.

  • All the items must be adjacent to one another.
  • An item can only be used for one habitat: the same object cannot count toward two recipes at once.
  • A habitat only welcomes one Pokémon. To meet several possible species from the same recipe, you need to build several copies of it.
  • Once the Pokémon has moved in, the habitat becomes its home: you can improve it with other decorative items (bed, furniture…).

Discovering and creating a habitat

Not all recipes are known from the start. There are several ways to unlock them:

  • Hints found while exploring: as you travel the world, you may come across glowing hints (a rainbow you can interact with) that reveal how a habitat is made.
  • The Shop sells hints for the more elaborate habitats.
  • The main story: at certain points, the Habitat Dex fills in on its own to help you progress.
  • The Habitat Dex (in the game menu) lists the habitats you have discovered, their items, the Pokémon you can meet there, their rarity and their appearance conditions.

To create a habitat, gather the listed items (crafted at the workbench, grown, or placed in the scenery), set them right next to one another, then let time do its work. Common Pokémon arrive fairly quickly, while rare species take much more patience.

Environmental conditions

Each recipe requires its own items, but some come up often and determine where the habitat can be placed.

Altitude, water, lava: the terrain matters

  • High-altitude spot: eight habitats require a high point (No. 006, 012, 040, 052, 102, 140, 145, 174), for example “High-Altitude Tall Grass” (No. 006) or “High-Altitude Flower Bed” (No. 012).
  • Water: the game distinguishes several types of water. Depending on the recipe, you need a body of water (14 habitats, for example No. 004 or No. 010), seawater (No. 005, 060, 088 and 185), spring water (No. 078, 112, 113, 114 and 187) or muddy water (No. 054 and 186).
  • Lava: two habitats require it (No. 115 and 188, including “Magma Fishing Spot”).
  • Fishing: several recipes (No. 184 to 188 in particular) are built around a fishing rod, a seat and a body of water.

Light, electricity and lit items

Some items must be lit or powered by electricity to count: campfire, street lamp, spotlight, portable stage, television, vending machine, arcade machine… The “Lit Tall Grass” (No. 007) and “Small Library” (No. 163) habitats require “any lighting”. As for ambient light, nocturnal Pokémon also show up in dark places, such as caves and shaded areas, not just at night; conversely, a very bright spot can attract a normally diurnal Pokémon at night.

Rarity, time and weather

Each habitat can attract several Pokémon, with a rarity shown by stars in the Habitat Dex: the rarer a species is in the habitat, the less likely it is to show up. The same species can be more common in one recipe than in another. Some appearances are also subject to specific conditions:

  • Time: some Pokémon only come at night, such as Oddish in the “Green Tall Grass” habitat (No. 001) or Hoothoot in the “Pretty Flower Bed” habitat (No. 008); others are absent at night (morning, daytime and evening only).
  • Weather: several Pokémon only appear in the rain, notably Goomy (No. 009 and 041), Sliggoo (No. 004) and Goodra (No. 045). Habitats No. 040 to 042 are also built with Castform figures (sun or rain).
  • Area: some Pokémon only show up in certain areas of the map.

The full table below does not detail rarity, time or weather species by species: this information is displayed directly in each habitat’s entry in the Habitat Dex.

Special habitats

  • Character habitats: some habitats welcome the game’s emblematic Pokémon: Professor Tangrowth (No. 043, “Professor’s Treasure Corner”), Peakychu (No. 081, “Restful Sleep Corner”), Smearguru (No. 092, “Little Workshop”), Mosslax (No. 093, “Tasty Offering Altar”), DJ Rotom (No. 128, “Music and Reading Corner”) and Chef Dente (No. 133, “Professional Kitchen”).
  • Fossil displays: habitats No. 193 to 201 are fossil displays, with a pedestal and the pieces of a skeleton (head, torso, tail…), which attract Fossil Pokémon such as Cranidos or Aerodactyl.
  • Event habitats: some temporary events add their own habitats. They do not count toward the base game list and can be viewed in the Habitat Dex and the Pokédex by pressing L or R. They are listed at the end of the guide.

The habitats of the Bubbly Basin expansion are not included in this guide: they have a dedicated guide.

Habitats 001 to 050

The table follows the order of the Habitat Dex. The “Required items” column gives the quantity of each item; “Any…” means that any object in the category will do.

Bubbly Basin habitats

The habitats of the Bubbly Basin (part 1 of the Expansion Pass) are not repeated here: they have a dedicated guide on Pokemon-France.com.

For a glimpse of the game and its atmosphere, here is the official trailer from Nintendo France.

Tips

  • Always check the Habitat Dex before building: it shows the missing items, the rarity and the conditions for each Pokémon.
  • A Pokémon that is rare in one recipe may be more common in another: compare the habitats that attract it before getting started.
  • Since a habitat only shelters one Pokémon and an item can only be used once, plan on several copies of the basic items (grass, flowers, tables, seats).
  • Don’t forget to light up or power the relevant items (lamps, campfires, television, stage…), otherwise the habitat will not be validated.
  • For a nocturnal Pokémon, a dark place (cave, shaded area) can replace the night.
